Motordrome Closes Out 2009 With Awards Banquet Date Posted: 1/8/2010 SMITHTON, PA (December 12, 2009) The 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Weekly Series racing season at Motordrome Speedway came to an official close Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the annual Awards Banquet held at Huntington Place near Smithton. The five 2009 Division Track Champions, along with the top ten in points were honored during the awards presentation. Receiving champions trophies were: Mark Cottone McKeesport, PA (NASCAR Subway Super Late Models), Adam Kostelnik N. Braddock, PA (Wyotech Modifieds), Dink Colarusso Greensburg, PA (NAPA Street Stocks), Matt Gardner Ruffsdale, PA (Pro Auto Service Chargers), and Matt Sever West Newton, PA (Coca-Cola Super Compacts). Along with special trophies from Motordrome Speedway, each champion received NASCAR Whelen All-American Series plaques and custom monogrammed Hoosier jackets compliments of Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Following the presentation of the division top ten awards, the Motordrome special recognition awards were given. Mike Cottone, crew chief for 2009 NASCAR Subway Super Late Model Champion Mark Cottone, received the Craftsman Mechanic of the Year. The 2009 Rookie of The Year awards were given to: Mike Lemley (Wyotech Modifieds), Steve Long (NAPA Street Stocks), Zane Ferrell (Pro Auto Service Chargers), and Troy Knight (Coca-Cola Super Compacts). The NASCAR Subway Super Late Models did not have a rookie in competition in 2009. The 2009 Most Improved Driver awards were presented to: Michael Zombar (NASCAR Subway Super Late Models), Bill Hribar (Wyotech Modifieds), Jeff Zillweger (NAPA Street Stocks), Ed Neidhardt, Jr. (Pro Auto Service Chargers), and Bill Schwartz (Coca-Cola Super Compacts). The final special award, 2009 Sportsmanship Award was given to Phil Hoss Grubbs for his dedication to the sport of auto racing and all his hard work in the pits at Motordrome each and every week. Plans for the upcoming 2010 season at Motordrome Speedway will be announced at a later date. |
